On The Campaign Trail With Rick: Senior Citizen Transportation

We are down to less than 5 weeks until election day.  I am trying to meet as many residents as time will allow, and having very important conversations at their front doors.  For Malta Senior Citizens, the topic of transportation keeps coming up.  The Towns of Halfmoon and Clifton Park provide senior citizen transportation.  In fairness, both Clifton Park and Halfmoon are about twice the population of Malta, and each Town budgets over $250,000 for their bus service. 

Malta Residents do have access to Care Links and Wellness Express.  Wellness Express provides medical transportation for Malta residents 60 and over. Rides are available weekdays between 8:00am and 3:30pm. Seniors can call 518-399-3262 to schedule a ride.  Information on senior citizen transportation should be posted on the Town’s website and linked to the Malta Seniors website. 

But we need more.  I think we need to seek broader solutions to the lack of public transportation in Malta.  If elected, and as a first step, I will seek to have the Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) expand FLEX bus transportation service in Malta and to explore greater public transportation access in Southern Saratoga County.  I’m Rick Handley and I am running for Malta Town Board.
