ABOUT RICK
LEADERSHIP WITH VISION
Rick has been recognized for his leadership in coalition building, designing and delivery of consumer outreach and education, and building networks. “I take great pride in the work that I did working for local and state government and for the work that I did for my private sector clients in my consulting business.”
Rick attended Mohawk Valley Community College, SUNY Oswego, and graduated summa cum laude from the State University of New York College of Technology in Utica, New York. Rick attended Russel Sage graduate program in Business Administration and has completed numerous certificate programs in renewable and sustainable technologies, municipal management, and finance.
Rick has lived in the Town of Malta since 1996 with his wife Tambrey where they raised their three children. Rick is currently retired but has remained very active in the community. In addition to sharing grandchild care duties with Tammy, Rick was a volunteer for Care Links in Saratoga County for nearly a decade. Rick has served as the vice-chair and chairman of the Malta Democratic Committee, and is an active member of the Malta League of Arts. As Vice-Chair and Chair of the Malta Democratic Committee since 2016, Rick has been active in local campaigns for Town Board and Supervisor. He is very familiar with local issues and frequently attends Town Board meetings and workshops. In 2018 Rick worked with the two Malta Fire Departments on a proposed local code to require fire suppression sprinklers in new residential construction in the Town of Malta.
Rick loves to cook and is working on a cookbook of family recipes. He is an avid baker and has won over 50 ribbons at the Saratoga County Fair culinary completion.
Rick Handley had a nearly 50-year career working at all levels of government; county, state, and national levels and owning and managing a consulting business. Rick began his professional career working at the Oneida County Planning Department. Rick has also worked for New York State, and The Coalition of Northeastern Governors Policy Research Center in Washington DC. In 2008 Rick formed a consulting business, Rick Handley & Associates.
As a consultant Rick provided clients with business development guidance, and technical and business assessment of emerging technologies specializing in renewable technology. Through his firm, Rick provided a range of services to for-profit, non-profits, and municipalities, including project development, grant writing, and public education.
